About Corey Bearak

Corey Bearak, attorney, combines expertise in strategic public policy, politics and media to devise and manage strategies on behalf of businesses, government and community agencies, trade unions, trade groups, coalitions, individuals, public officials, and political candidates.

He began in 1978 by working as Assistant to New York Secretary of State Mario M. Cuomo. In later roles in New York City—among them Counsel and Chief of Staff for a prominent New York City Council Member, and Legislative Counsel/Director of Policy, Planning and Budget for two successive Bronx Borough Presidents—he worked on public initiatives, legislation, and laws relating to public transit, clean water, police oversight, affordable housing, tax reform, hazardous substances, recycling and solid waste management, handguns, a community policing initiative, a model alternative-to-incarceration plan, and a strategic clean air plan.

He is also a prolific columnist. He wrote a commentary on public affairs and policy issues that first appeared as a weekly column in the award-winning Times Ledger, a chain of neighborhood newspapers in the New York City borough of Queens, between June 2003 and May 2005.
