Co-editor of this book, Toby Wren is a composer and guitarist working in jazz, intercultural and improvised contexts. He has recorded six albums of original music since 2000, including the soon to be released, Black Mountain. He also regularly performs with leading contemporary jazz ensembles such as The Trevor Hart Quartet, Andrew Butt, and Rafael Karlen. Several of his compositions feature in the Australian Jazz Real Book. His doctoral research was about improvisation in intercultural contexts, based on his ongoing collaborations with master musicians of the Carnatic tradition. He is currently a Senior Lecturer at SAE Creative Media Institute where he teaches Critical Thinking, Media, and Cultural Studies, and a lecturer in jazz guitar at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University.
